SUNY Empire is able to provide support to our students to participate in unpaid internships related to their career goals. Available funds can provide support for transportation, professional/business clothing, and child care. Students are eligible to receive these grants one time. The supports are based on an internship amounting to 160 hours for a semester, approximately one day per week for 16 weeks. The supports include:


Professional/Business Attire Grant:

 A Virtual Clothing Closet with a $250 grant to purchase professional and business attire for your internship or upcoming job interviews from Amazon.


Travel Grant: 

Students participating in an in-person, credit-bearing internship can apply to receive a travel grant of up to $250.

Driving:

  • 10 miles round-trip: $130
  • 20 miles round-trip: $200
  • 30+ miles round-trip: $250


 Public Transportation: $100


Child Care Grant: 

For students participating in a credit-bearing internship, we are able to offer a one-time grant to offset child care costs.

  • $500 for the first dependent
  • $250 for each additional dependent

To qualify for internship supports, you must complete the following form. Please be prepared to upload documentation if you are applying for the childcare grant portion.

If you are approved for a one-time, internship support grant, you will receive further documentation from Career Services.

Purpose of Scholarship: To reward students for excellence in their academic performance and extraordinary commitment to their campus and/or community. The scholarship amount is $1000 with an additional $250 given in their name to the charity of his/her choice.

 

Requirements - To be eligible for consideration an individual applicant must meet the following criteria:

- An individual applicant must have a Dean’s List GPA as of the last reporting period, 

- provide two letters of recommendation, and

- the student also must have played a role identifying and/or supporting specific needs on the campus or in the community and worked to provide a service or solution to address that need.

 The university understands that students face many non-academic challenges during their time at SUNY Empire State University due to unforeseen and unexpected fiscal challenges. The Emergency Food Pantry at SUNY Empire State University aims to provide a one-time, immediate food supply during times of crisis and establish connections with local food pantries for ongoing assistance. 

Application Instructions:  

To qualify for food assistance, you must complete the following form to explain your financial situation and any recent life changes and be a currently enrolled SUNY Empire student. Please be prepared to upload documentation demonstrating recent life changes that could impact your financial circumstances, along with any information reflecting your current financial status. 

If you are approved for a one-time, immediate food supply, a staff member will reach out to you to discuss the items and a pick-up location.

All students are encouraged to explore SUNY Empire’s new Single Stop Resource Finder tool. When you visit that site, you will be able to enter your zip code and locate services within your local area and you can connect with them directly. Single Stop also offers a screening tool to determine if you are eligible for local, state, and federal resources, like SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). To use the screening too, visit the Single Stop homepage and click the green “Let’s Get Started!” button.

Students face many non-academic challenges during their time at SUNY Empire State University due to unforeseen and unexpected fiscal challenges. The student emergency grant fund will provide a one-time emergency grant to assist students in alleviating these non-academic challenges. 

To qualify for an emergency fund grant, you will have to complete the form to detail how the emergency grant money will be used. Students demonstrating the most need will be given priority to available funding. To increase your chances of a grant,  you can upload documentation demonstrating your financial need. You will need to explain how these costs will affect your studies. 

Eligibility: 

  • Students must be actively enrolled at SUNY Empire State University
  • Must be registered for at least one Fall 2023 class. 

One-time emergency fund grants will support students with the following: 

  • Urgent need for food or groceries
  • Critical past due partial rent/mortgage payments 
  • Emergency housing or hotel
  • Child care/Eldercare
  • Mental health provider co-pay or sliding scale fee for self 
  • Needs related to personal safety (domestic violence or similar)
  • Transportation (public transportation, fuel, or car repair)
  • Critical past due utility payments (electrical, natural gas, or internet)
  • Medications and other costs related to emergent medical care

Funds cannot be used for:

  • Tuition, fees, or prior learning assessments
  • Non-essential expenses such as entertainment
  • Parking fees or parking ticket fees
  • Legal Fines/Expenses
  • Cost related to technology (computers, printers)
